Gala Highlights

The Alexandria - Mt. Vernon Chapter hosted its 50th Anniversary Gala, themed “Faith, Family, and Friends: Empowering the Alexandria, VA Community” on November 19, 2016.

The evening’s program highlighted the chapter’s accomplishments over the past 50 years and encouraged guests to work towards creating a stronger community through relationships with one another.  The emcee for this momentous occasion was A’Lelia Bundles, author, journalist, network news executive, and great-great-granddaughter of entrepreneur Madam C.J. Walker.

This family-friendly gala captivated both young and old as children danced in their own ballroom with deejay, played video games inside a game truck and watched a magic show while the adults danced the night away to a live band.

Special recognition and presentation was made to two of its Charter Members who was able to join in the festivities-Lillian Patterson and Armita Wood.

Through generous donations from sponsors, family and friends, the Chapter was able to support several community partners like Project Giveback of Northern Virginia and the Dunbar Alexandria-Olympic Boys and Girls Club.

National President Joli Cooper-Nelson, National Vice President Danielle Brown, Regional Director Mondi Kumbula-Fraser, Northern Virginia Chapter Presidents, and political figures, were among those who attended this sold-out event.
